Neuropathy is a medical condition that affects over three million people in the US alone. Neuropathy is defined as weakness, numbness, and pain caused by nerve damage and is usually felt by people in their hands and feet. Neuropathy is not a condition that just comes and goes away. It is a chronic condition that can cause pain for years or perhaps your entire life. The most common cause of neuropathy is diabetes but it can also be caused by things such as exposure to toxins, injuries, infections, B12 vitamin deficiencies as well as medications commonly used to treat HIV and even chemotherapy treatments.
Those who suffer from neuropathy often are prescribed harmful pharmaceuticals such as oxycodone that are highly addictive and come with a wide variety of side effects. Unfortunately, these pharmaceuticals oftentimes do not provide consistent relief and patients are left feeling hopeless and experiencing extreme discomfort and pain. Luckily there is a natural and effective alternative that has been scientifically proven to bring relief for those suffering from neuropathy no matter what the cause is. The natural alternative that I am speaking of is of course none other than cannabis.
There have been several different scientific studies surrounding how cannabis can help neuropathy patients all of which have shown cannabis providing great relief. In 2004 there was a study conducted on neuropathy associated with multiple sclerosis and it found that patients who consumed THC concentrated pills found great relief from their pain and also received a good night’s sleep. In 2011 a study that was conducted showed that when cannabis was vaporized even in small doses it helped the majority of patients find relief from general and peripheral neuropathy who had previously not found relief from traditional treatments. In 2010 there was a study conducted specifically surrounding post-traumatic and post-surgical neuropathic pain. This study showed that cannabis was extremely effective at bringing relief when consumed by smoking. In 2011 there was yet another study that showed cannabis providing significant relief for neuropathic pain associated with HIV. The study also showed that patients had a significant improvement in their overall mood and ability to perform daily functions. Cannabis does not have to be vaporized or smoked for patients to find relief. In fact, there are several different oils, creams, salves and lotions available on the market today that are made utilizing cannabis and cannabinoid extracts that can be applied externally where ever neuropathy symptoms occur.
